Happy New Year!

Pony Club NSW welcomes you all into 2009 and hopes that all members and their families had a lovely time over Christmas!

This year has already kicked off with a bang with numerous camps being run across the State, including the State Camp held at the Sydney International Equestrian Centre. Over the year we will see all of our State Championships held at there usual times throughout the year, however a venue is still to be arranged for mounted games (see State Championships below).

In July this year we will see the Australian Pony Club Championships hosted by us at the Sydney International Equestrian Centre.

Long list nominations have now closed and these rider's will now attend the selection event on 4th and 5th April at Bungendore Pony Club. Information was sent on the 28 January to these riders, so they should receive it shortly.

We still have sponsorship opportunities available for clubs, zones, businesses and other interested people. The sponsorship proposal was sent to clubs in the last mail out and will be uploaded to the Nationals website (www.ponyclubnationals.org.au) soon. If you would like to discuss the opportunities available please email Steph (marketing@pcansw.org.au), or call the office (02 4229 8977).

We are also in need of volunteers to help throughout the Event. If you are interested please email Steph, or call the Office on and leave your details.

Make sure you check the Pony Club NSW website regularly to find out what other clubs and zones have been up to. Please send us any stories or photos about your club or zones activities. Also send any suggestions on what you would like to see in the State Newsletter or Pon E News, or comments on either of these publications. Email to marketing@pcansw.org.au or post to PO BOX 2085, Wollongong, NSW, 2500.

Information on Strangles

Strangles, caused by the bacterium Streptococcus equi equi, is one of the most important horse diseases in NSW.

It is a notifiable disease which means that if your horse has strangles you have a legal obligation to report it.

Strangles is usually seen in young horses but it can infect older horses. Outbreaks sometimes occur when large numbers of horses are held in close contact.

Information about the disease, how to reduce the risk of introducing it to your property and how to notify the presence of strangles is available at:

http://www.dpi.nsw.gov.au/agriculture/livestock/horses/health/general/strangles
