At Arcadia Pony Club we think our club is particularly unique and special and would love to have others come and share in the experience with us.
Why is Arcadia a great club?
Dedicated instructors and parents!
Despite having 68 riding members we have a high number of qualified Pony Club instructors which give us the optimum ratio of riders to instructors so that every rider has the best opportunity to learn in a safe environment and have fun! In addition to this there is a culture of parents assisting the instructors wherever possible so our activities are organised and set up quickly and we have that extra set of eyes watching the children to ensure a safety is maintained.
We have a large group of Newcomers this year (16) with two dedicated instructors managing this group and giving them the opportunity to experience all disciplines learning correct skills from the ground up. For example our Newcomers ODE was run to a traditional format but with the cross country modified so instead of jumps there were obstacles that needed to be negotiated within a specific time. These were such things as: Walk and trot between two exact points (demonstrate control). Halt within a square for 4 seconds (control), walk down a bank, (control and position), walk over a wooden bridge (control, steering and keeping the horse straight). It was a raging success and gave the Newcomers a tremendous sense of achievement.
Those outside the Newcomers group also have specialist instructors with support from parents that work with age and skill level to give the riders the best possible opportunity to become skilful riders and have fun with their horses at the same time.
The more experienced riders are also encouraged to ride at external events such as Inter-schools, Horse Trials, Dressage, Showjumping and Hacking. Our fantastic instructors assist the riders in preparation for Pony Club competitions and external events. They offer their support and coaching on how to produce your best when competing, have fun and act in a sportsmanlike manner when they are at such events.
Friendship and Fun!
The emphasis at Arcadia is friendship and fun! The older children act as mentors to the newcomers and encourage everyone to join in and contribute. This extends to the parents as well and it is rare to have a shortage of volunteers at rally days, competitions, working bees or fund raising.
If you are looking for a club in Sydney that embodies the values of Pony Club, gives you the best opportunity to have fun with your horse, learn horsemanship skills and establish lasting friendships – come and join us at Arcadia.
